Smoke Alarm Installation, Testing, and Upgrades.

Did you know that three out of five deaths caused by house fires are due to a lack of or faulty smoke alarms? This is why it’s mandatory by law for most homes to have a smoke alarm installed. These devices are not a luxury but a necessity that can save your life in case of a fire.

House fires are a serious danger, especially at night when we are asleep and less aware. Our sense of smell is not as strong while we sleep, which is why smoke alarms are crucial. They can alert us with sound and wake us from a deep sleep. It is important to remember that the toxic gases from a fire can be more harmful than the flames.

It’s important to keep in mind that outdated smoke alarms can be just as dangerous as not having one at all. Contact Star Plus Electrical to install your smoke alarms. You will sleep a little easier knowing that your home is fully compliant and that your family has the assurance of fully operational smoke alarms.

    smoke alarms

Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years. Every smoke alarm in your home has an expiration date. If you’re unsure of the time remaining on your alarm, there’s an easy way to check its viability. Most alarms will feature a manufacturer’s date printed on the back of the alarm. If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s time to replace the alarm.

While the centre of the room is the preferred location for smoke alarms, this is not a requirement. On the ceiling and they must be 300mm from corners or lights and 400mm from anything that may blow air such as an air conditioner or the edge of the blade of a ceiling fan. There are special requirements for sloping ceilings and ceilings with exposed beams.

Ionisation smoke alarms may not operate in time to alert you early enough to escape a smouldering fire. Smouldering fires are the major cause of fatalities in house fires.

We take our responsibilities of protecting the occupants of homes that we service very seriously, and for this reason, and based on our real-world experience with ionisation smoke alarms, we only install photoelectric smoke alarms.

This means that if one smoke alarm detects smoke, they all sound. Interconnected smoke alarms are connected to other smoke alarms in the dwelling either directly or wirelessly.

This can be done by physically wiring together or using wireless technology (or a combination of both). Wireless technology is available for both 240-volt and battery operated smoke alarms.
